Just days before the actual Grammy ceremony, Billboard gather a select panel of musicians, producers, industry experts, and Grammy voters to pick out which artists they think deserve to win an award on Sunday. With 39% of the Grammy votes, Beyonce is expected to take home the top Grammy honor. She was nominated for ‘Album of the year’ back in 2010 for her album “I am….Sasha Fierce”. If Beyonce takes home the Grammy, she will become the fourth African-American female in history (Previous winners: Natalie Cole (1992), Whitney Houston (1994), & Lauryn Hill (1999)) to snag the award and the first black female in the past 16 years.
In Dec 13th, Beyonce released a surprise album exclusively to iTunes, selling over 617,000 albums in 3 day giving her one of the biggest first week sales for a female black artist (Alicia Keys & Mary J. Blige both debuted over 720,000 albums in a 7 day period). She also sold over 1 million digital albums in 6 days worldwide, making her album the fastest selling digital album of all time. Metacritic scored her album: 85/100 making her album “universal acclaim”. She has the best metcritic score out of all the Grammy nominees and the best critic score for a female artist. Billboard deemed her self-titled album the second best album of the decade.
